Lets Tango!

The first time for everything is typically terrifying. We don't wanna go! We automatically think we will fail! We assume the worst even if that's just trying a new food or taking a different route home! We fill our minds with extreme doubt and before we even try, we are certain we won’t like it and therefore, won’t have a good experience.

This is exactly what went through my mind before I stepped foot into my first tango class at Escuela de Tango De Buenos Aires. I for one love to try new things but that doesn’t mean my mind doesn’t swirl before.

BUT WOW did I surprise myself!!!!!

Yes, I was reminded to tuck my pelvis, keep a straight posture, lean forward, and put weight on my toes about a hundred times but that was SO magnificent! I love to dance and although I was uncomfortable at first, we have to let go of our inhibitions to truly feel life!!

Tango is intimate. Tango makes you trust and surrender. Tango forces you to move and get comfortable whether you want to or not. The class was 98% in Spanish but that did not stop me from being myself. I had to watch with my eyes to really understand what was going on, be vulnerable with my hips, and tap into the vibrations of the slow, sexy, and harmonic music.

At times I had to stop and restart but that “pause-and-recollect-myself-moment” showed me it’s good to take breaks…
