The only reason to visit Lagunas is to depart on a multi-day excursion throughout the Amazonian Jungle called Reserve Nacional Pacaya Samiria. There is nothing to do in Lagunas otherwise.

  • To get to Lagunas: You can take a boat from Yurimaguas (which is what I did) that leaves every day. Or you can bus to a city called Nauta, which is closer to Iquitos.
  • Place of stay: Hospedaje Paraiso Verde (We just showed up and paid a cheap rate versus booking anything in advance. Booking only has one place Hospedaje Eco which is also amazing and a lot of tourists stay there)
  • TIPS: YOU NEED TO BRING A LOT OF CASH TO LAGUNAS BUT IF YOU DON'T YOU CAN GO TO HOSPEDAJE ECO AND PAY A SMALL FEE TO RECEIVE MONEY. THERE ARE NO ATMS IN LAGUNAS.

The company I used was called Acatupel. THIS IS SUCH AN AMAZING COMPANY! They walked me through what I was going to be doing, eating, seeing, and sleeping before the trip even started! When the trip ended, we all sat at the office and drank coconuts together.
